I’m an experienced Motion Artist with over 10 years of motion design experience and knowledge. I have ample experience leading projects from pre-production to launch that encompass a wide range of creative fields, including traditional animation workflows, post-production pipelines, mobile applications, and web apps. I can chat layers or nodes, keyframes to curves, typography, paths, lighting to grading, or even FFmpeg and SVG’s. I believe I can bring a wide range of high end skills to you and your company.
Biteable - VIC
Senior Motion Designer/Lead Motion Designer
2017 - 2022
Biteable was my pivot into the world of tech, serving content to millions of unique users across the globe. As the team grew, I took on an expanded role as lead motion artist in the Studio team, working on a variety of briefs while providing oversight and support for the other motion artists. This came in the form of onboarding, documentation, providing feedback, guiding artists with technical support and information. During product development, I gave weekly updates of new features and roadmaps of its development. This allowed the artists to focus on their creativity while I worked with the development team on content management and backend technicalities.
With a clear perspective of video design on social platforms and other media, I presented stakeholders and team managers with detailed research and analysis of user insights and business use cases of each project.
Utilising my experience in post-production workflows and pipelines, I assisted engineering in ensuring Studios assets came out looking visually acceptable while balancing back-end performance. As we evolved, I provided solutions to optimising workflows that incorporated a wide range of 2D and 3D animation skill sets to ship user-friendly assets onto the Biteable app.
My skills were used in a range of areas including UI/UX design in the app, frontend design and graphics, social marketing and animated internal communications.
Project Highlights
TikTok Business Templates
In partnership with TikTok and stakeholders in China, I worked with Biteable's motion artists and copywriters to create a collection of bespoke templates for TikTok's video marketing platform. They were received very well by the team at TikTok, with the expectation the relationship will continue as demand grows.
Using the research of the platform's trends and my experience making AE based templates, I supplied a series of concepts and briefs that I assigned each artist based on their known strengths and styles.
Biteable Marketing
Tasks in this area would range from brand refreshes, video editing and grading, creative input for various campaigns, creating videos based on marketing briefs and requirements, post-production assistance for larger-scale projects.
Biteable V3
Working with various product and design team members, I worked on the revamped UI of our app, with a particular focus on the timeline. Supplying specs and working with engineering to launch our first early beta of V3.
Template building
The Biteable studio team is constantly producing new content for our users. Depending on company goals, user profiles, business metrics, and research, I will have worked with a group of 2-4 artists to create and build new content to suit. Each project begins with a deeper investigation into our users, often helping to define user roles and what they look for in our content. My part tends to require quality assurance and feedback to our artists, ranging from creative input or solutions to make the content more flexible and broadly usable by a wider audience. I also wrote some Studio documentation, including uploading guides, onboarding for new Studio members, encoding specs and more.
Boogie Monster - WA
Motion Designer and Creative
2011 - 2017
My role comprised mainly in motion design while also providing various creative solutions outside of animation in a high-end boutique post-production environment. I had the opportunity to apply my design skills to a wide range of motion graphics formats, including short films, long-form feature films, tv commercials, corporate videos, event production, and digital content for web and social platforms. I researched, assembled, and presented many pitches to win projects for the Studio. This included scoping projects with the studio manager or producer and typical day to day office tasks.
During busy periods I would often be responsible of up to 2-3 junior artists at a time. A typical post-production pipeline would include ingesting footage, R&D, setting up assets for the artists to use, compositing, paint-outs, and overseeing shots to ensure quality and continuity; often with a VFX supervisor, creative or director.
Project Highlights
The Shallows - Feature Film
I worked directly with 3 other artists and a few others in LA during this project. I worked on a variety of VFX shots while also maintaining quality and continuity with my local team.
Kleenheat - Broadcast Advertising
Supervised VFX shoot on set and worked on the final composited shots before passing them on to an editor and finishing artist.
Western Australian of the Year Awards - Performance Media
Working closely with a dance company and choreographer for some weeks, I created graphics that were then projected onto two performers at a live event. This also included all the live animation collateral during the award night.
TAB Touch - Broadcast Advertising
Consisted of many types of shots that ranged from compositing, screen replacement, and animation. One particular project was heavily based on particle effects and 3D strokes.
Hovex Vaporguard - Broadcast Advertising
Working with another junior artist, I directed and designed the final ad from start to finish: this detailed character design, compositing, and light sound design and direction.
SAE Qantm College - WA
Lecturer
2012 - 2014
During my time at Boogie Monster, I also lectured the Animation Stream in Illustration Basics part-time. Tasks included:
Marking assignments.
Providing meaningful and constructive feedback.
Lecturing and presenting lessons.
Guiding students through their time in my unit.
I really valued this experience and the time I had with my students. It has been so rewarding to see them grow and work in industry-leading companies. I have always had a passion for education, with a particular focus on providing students with better paths to achieve their career goals in the creative industry.
Etc
2007 - 2021
Outside of my fulltime role, I’ve worked on a diverse range of freelance projects with a global base of clientele. Some of these projects will last for decades and others are being used by millions of users each day.
Some project highlights:
Compositor and motion designer for Institute of Civil Engineering documentaries in partnership with the London Museum of History. Bringing still historical photos into three dimensional life.
Clean-up artist and compositing with Moving Cities, in partnership with Hong Kong Ballet and the Hong Kong Design Centre, a 700 square meter print mural, which now brightens the walls of one of Hong Kong's busiest MTR stations, Wan Chai.
Story board and pre-production artist for Gucci’s first launch of their Guilty perfume range.
Skills
I wear many hats, and I love playing with software. Whether it be tinkering in Unreal Engine or writing expressions in AE, I can navigate unique fields outside of a typical designer's portfolio and not get too lost. Here are some of the highlights.
